As far as lockdown inspiration goes, we have seen many designers cite their unique experiences during this time into chic and sleek trends for the Spring 2021 runway season. It was one ordinary day while Veronica Etro was staying in her family home during lockdown and decided to pull out her family's old Nepolitan records to play whilst tidying up. Not long after the first tune rang, Veronica’s mind was consumed with patriotic memories of her beloved hometown in Italy. It became very obvious to Etro that she needed to produce an homage to those very moments in Italy, where her and her family were completely infatuated by the city's timelessness, beauty, everlasting elegance. As a metaphor for all of the longing feelings we have felt being in lockdown these last few months, Etro’s Spring 2021 collection reflects not only the ravish cravings for newness and freedom, but also brings in beautiful inspirations from the events we all had time to reflect on during the pandemic. In a sense, this collection was an accurate depiction for many of our deepest feelings and thoughts throughout lockdown, partially thirsting for the return to freedom, partially consumed with the inspiration of our past memories before the pandemic.

Cameras on set were able to catch the models getting dressed inside their claustrophobic fitting spaces, just moments before they could finally escape and fully embrace the freedom of expression and elegance this collection portrays. These moments all felt very liberating, the time had finally come where Veronica could finally see her collection in the reflection of the longing eyes of the socially-distanced spectators.

These looks were consciously informal pieces, as stated by Veronica Etro herself, “Who needs formal wear when there are no events to attend?” The collection features a wide variety of dreamy silk dresses and Neopolitian printed terry cloth separates drawn from Etro’s own 1990s archive. Bold pops of yellow, red, blue, and green were seen throughout all of the hand drawn prints and luxe fabrics used throughout countless looks, as well as simple T-shirts featuring 90s inspired beach club logos. However, traditionalist sticklers for a consistent theme throughout a runway collection might have upset at the added homages to the 1950s and 1960s inspired pieces with Etro’s tricot rayé knits, as well as countless mini skirts and halter bra tops.

Despite all, Veronica's Spring 2021 show will be one for the books, showcasing many unostentatious, yet brilliantly executed 90’s Italian inspired collections that will without a doubt be extremely sought after on the beaches of Italy and many countries beyond for this upcoming Spring season.
